Original Modern Abstract Ink Painting, 12"x12"

$128.00

Original, modern nature painting of the sun and rolling waves, created with artisanal ink, pokeberry, black walnut & buckthorn.

Size | 12x12 inches | 31 cm x 31 cm

Paper  |  Arches Aquarelle Watercolour - Acuarela | Cold Pressed. 300 g/m - 140 lb

STYLE

BASHI | The movement of brush strokes, evocative of our stronger emotions, the ways in which they turn, change and alchemize us. Using both hands, practicing the dragging of a large dry brush across the surface to get just the right amount of lines. Soaked, heavy, wet, bristles, watching it move slowly as the ink lessens to a feather touch, with barely any left.

INK

POKEBERRY BERRY INK | Fuchsia stems, deep warm purple berries against a corinthian bleached white railing, pokeberry weeds have been found in untamed front yards and the strange, neglected, backyard alleyways of Astoria. Berries bursting in your fingers, saturated fuchsia staining your hands, a murderer in the making. Gliding on the paper as the hottest pink, drying and darkening into a beautiful aubergine or wine, pokeberry ink, the ultimate in pure botanical saturated color.

BLACK WALNUT INK | Morning sunrise run, a craggy old tree silhouetted against the backdrop of the east river. Yellowy green globes, with brown black spots, gently bobbing at the ends of finger-like branches. Smashing them open with a hammer, taking the desecrated fruit, boiling, mashing, straining, until a beautiful rich black brown color glides across the paper.

PACKAGING | Each painting is carefully stamped with archival ink.  On the front, the paintings are stamped with my Japanese last name.  On the back is a Funabashi studio stamp, with the types of ink used, where they were found, the approximate date of creation, ID number, all hand written and signed with a fountain pen.
